They are both decent basses as far as I know, and you can get the Squier (cheaper) or Fender (more expensive) versions. Noob. I'd steer clear of a Squier Bronco. There are some nice short scale basses out there. The Bronco ain't one of them. Check out an SX P-bass at www.rondomusic.net SX basses are nicer than Squiers and sound decent right out of the box, though they usually need some set-up work.
